Statement of the Mission 89 Executive Director on World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2019

Almost two years after the establishment of Mission 89, we remain steadfast and confident in our strategy to combat child trafficking in the name of sport.

On this World Day against Trafficking in Persons, we ask the global sport industry, governments, civil society organizations, law enforcement, media and other key actors to consider what they can do to stop criminals from exploiting the dreams of children pursuing a professional career in sport?

Youth too have a role to play in protecting themselves and their aspirations; by educating themselves on the legal pathways and reporting any suspicious approaches.

Remember, a legitimate agent or intermediary will never ask anyone to pay money to go on trial in another country.
