Mission 89 Interview with Benjamin Smith, Senior Officer, Child Labour (ILO)

As professional sports become more spectacularized and commercialized, the avenues for exploitation also increases leading to various forms of abuse, including human trafficking and forced child labour.

Mission 89 recently interviewed Mr. Benjamin Smith, Senior Officer of the Child Labour division at the International Labour Organization (ILO), to discuss some of these issues and how the ILO has tackled some of them in the past.

Mission 89’s aim is to mitigate child trafficking in sports through research, education, and the implementation of mandatory regulations to keep sports training academies accountable for the safety and well-being of children in their care.
