Mission 89 in collaboration with the A-STEP Foundation (Kenya), deliver an initiative that gives priority to development objectives in Kakamega

By involving the participants and the communities of Kakamega in the design and delivery of activities, developing local capacity, and pursuing sustainability through the collaboration of numerous stakeholders and sponsors, Mission 89 and A-STEP Foundation worked together to deliver a successful Community Mini World Cup that upholds the calibre and integrity of the sporting experience.

“Mission 89 understands the need to involve and empower young people, and most importantly, to use this platform to tighten safeguards against the exploitation that is currently occurring in traditional sports. The Mini World Cup and the impact it will have on the Kakamega region’s communities have me very excited.” Said Executive Director Lerina Bright

The purpose of the event, which was held in Kakamega, Kenya, was to raise awareness of our programmes and raise money to finish building the A-Step Foundation youth vocational Centre project.

Mission 89 and local Kakamega partners set out to highlight the athletic prowess of young boys and girls who dream of a professional sporting career but encounter vulnerabilities like abuse, exploitation, and trafficking from November 20, 2022, through December 18 (during the FIFA World Cup).

“Since young people are the only ones who truly understand the challenges, they face and the best ways to overcome them, it is crucial to both drive the process and create a supportive environment that will encourage them to take control of their lives, exercise their free will, and do so in a secure environment. The abilities of youth when given the chance should not be taken for granted. The Rangoonwala Foundation is happy to support Mission 89 in Kakamega County, Kenya, for the Mini World Cup,” said Rangoonwala Foundation Founder Meheen Rangoonwala

This was an opportunity for organisations like the Rangoonwala Foundation to strengthen their organization’s position as an advocate for change. However, we shouldn’t discount the fact that Mission 89 and A-STEP Foundation would not have been able to realise the rights of youth to participate in sport without the support of partners.

By giving the youth a chance to perform some community service, Mission 89 and the A-STEP Foundation took advantage of how multidisciplinary sport is.

Sport can be used to unite virtually any community in the world and transcends national, cultural, socioeconomic, and political boundaries. When done properly, it is enjoyable for both participants and spectators.
