I think one approach to raising awareness about trafficking in large or small sport events in the global conference that Minister Melrose Karminty proposed is to establish a forum of 3 panels: 1) A Panel of Law Enforcement Officials (to explain what trafficking is, what the laws are, and how they are applied. This will bring everyone including the attendees onto the same level of understanding, especially if there are cross-border issues. Different countries have different laws, but there’s certainly room for cooperation and collaboration on enforcement.) 2) A Panel of the Host Country’s Community and Faith Leaders (to share what is being done, how effective the work is, and what types of cooperation and resources are needed), and 3) A Panel of Resources (to share the available resources such as regularly scheduled training, the work that are done on university campuses and in the community, the flyers that explain how to access the resources, partnering organizations, etc.).

It’s also important to broadcast the work on human/sex/labor trafficking to non-athletic audience as they’re also impacted by the increase of these hidden trafficking activities associated with commercial sex and labor exploitation. A special thank you to Mission 89 and its leadership team for bringing this to light. I hope you’ll continue to update your website from your 2018 report.
